Why I built Feltguiden
Feltguiden and Feltguiden Drone are now available on the App Store. Here's the story of why I built them, and how they can help you.
From book idea to app
For years I've wanted to share what I've learned about something I truly love: photography. At first I thought about a photo book, then an e-book.
But the more I thought about it, the clearer it became that neither solved the real problem. When you're out in the field wondering how to get the shot, you rarely have a book with you. You have your phone.
So I built an app. The knowledge should be right where you need it, even when you're far beyond cell coverage.
Feltguiden – for photographers
Feltguiden is a teacher and a toolbox in one. It's made for you who just bought your first camera, and for you who have been shooting for years and want to get even better.
Lessons from the basics to advanced techniques, written simply, with illustrations that work regardless of camera brand.
Light planner that shows when the sun actually clears and drops behind the terrain around you, not just when it rises and sets. It works anywhere in the world.
My spots, where you save your favorite photo locations.
Works completely offline, right where you need it.
Feltguiden is available worldwide, in English and Norwegian.
Feltguiden Drone – for drone pilots in Norway
When I looked at what was available for drone pilots in Norway, I found either exam practice or learning material, but rarely both in one place. And most exam services stop being useful the day you pass.
Feltguiden Drone is built to stay with you, out in the field.
A2 exam simulator that lets you practice under the same conditions as the real exam. You see how you're doing, so you know when you're ready.
Free A1/A3 practice for everyone who has the app.
Learning material on flying, safety and regulations, explained simply.
Light planner, the same as in Feltguiden.
Tailored to your drone once you add it.
The app is built around Norwegian regulations and is available in Norwegian and English, so it also suits English-speaking pilots in Norway.
Privacy isn't an add-on
Neither app collects any data about you. No tracking, no accounts and nothing sent to third parties.
Everything you save, like photo spots, your drone and your exam results, stays on your own phone. The light planner uses your location only to calculate the light where you stand, and it is never sent anywhere.
You can read the full privacy policy for each app here on the website.
What's next
This is just the beginning. Both apps will get new features going forward, and an Android version is on its way.
I'd love to hear what you think. If you have suggestions or find something that could be better, send me a message. And if you like the app, a review on the App Store means a lot to a small developer.
